It is impossible not to walk along Nezavisimosti (Independence) Square while staying in Minsk. It is, in fact, the biggest square in Belarus. It is even bigger than Red square in Moscow or some other major Europe squares. But Nezavisimosti square is famous not only for its’ size but also for the beauty. There are a lot of flowers and trees at the square, mingled with nice benches, amazing small memorials and sculptures. That’s why it is a popular place for rest with the citizens.
Moreover, a lot of important sights are situated here: the Government house, Red Roman-Catholic church (The church of Saints Simon and Helena) – the most famous catholic church in Minsk; Belarusian State University, Belarusian State Pedagogical University, General Post Office etc.

One of the first things we do when visiting a foreign country is trying its national cuisine. There is no way you can understand a national character without tasting its typical courses. It is a common knowledge that Belarusians are famous potato-lovers. You can find so many traditional dishes made with potatoes from Draniki (beloved Belarusian potato pancakes) to Babka (a pie from meat and potatoes). If you like pork, sausage, mushrooms or various grits you will also find something in our cuisine to satisfy your appetite. And of course we can’t but mention our country’s specialty – cholodnyk - a cold soup, made with beet, eggs, and cucumbers and served with greenery and sour cream.
The XXII winter Olympic Games, which were taking place in Sochi, the Russian Federation, are finally coming to the end. It is but evident that the results of the Olympics are rather pleasing not only for Belarusian sportsmen themselves but also for all the Belarusians as it is during these Olympics that the sportsmen have shown the best country result.
Today the first renovated hall in Minsk-2 international airport was opened for passengers. The renovated area looks bright and modern comparing with the old interior. Meanwhile a big part of the airport is still under construction. The administration of the airport apologizes for the temporary inconvenience and informs that all passengers will enjoy the new level of service and comfort in a few months when the renovation is done. The whole reconstruction should be finished by March 2014.
